Roger Malina

ArtSciLab Advisory Board Member

A distinguished astrophysicist and interdisciplinary thinker, Roger played a pivotal role as Principal Investigator on NASA’s Extreme Ultraviolet Explorer (EUVE) satellite, contributing to the first human-made map of the sky at wavelengths between 70 and 760 angstroms—a landmark achievement in space science (EUVE Project).

Beyond his contributions to astrophysics, Roger has been a driving force in the arts-science-technology community. Following the legacy of his father, Frank Malina, he played a key role in establishing nonprofit organizations to ensure the continuation of Leonardo Publications, fostering global dialogues at the intersection of science and creativity (OLATS | Leonardo).

His commitment to interdisciplinary exploration is further reflected in the Off-Center for Emergence Studies, an initiative developed in collaboration with Jason Brogden, Janeil Engelstadt, and Patricia Olynyk, which has led to impactful, unexpected intersections between diverse fields. Roger’s presence on the advisory board brings an invaluable visionary perspective, bridging disciplines in ways that redefine the boundaries of knowledge and innovation.

AI-Co-authored Publishing

Finally he also started , in the fall of 2024, working with the Off Center for Emergence Studies to develop AI co-authored publishing https://artscilab.utdallas.edu/2024/11/29/center-for-emergence-studies-at-the-utdallas-artscilab/

The team has been developing a AI coauthor called Fred the Heretic: You can find FTH by searching through GPTs, or directly here: https://chatgpt.com/g/g-XmhqgURbv-fredtheheretic-fth and you can use this to coauthor and publish your own work.
