Associate Professor of Instruction – Computer Science
University of Texas at Dallas

Karen Doore is an Associate Professor of Instruction in the Computer Science Department at the University of Texas at Dallas. Her current research uses a creative, modeling-first approach for designing computer science curriculum for experience-design students. Her curriculum focuses on modeling dynamic event-based systems where students learn programming to create interactive, personally-meaningful computational-artifacts. She enjoys sharing her passion for teaching; she designed and implemented a curriculum for the Girl Scouts of North Texas (GSNTX), that used an artistic, humanist, and empathetic approach to teach computational design for jewelry fabrication.  She has worked as a jewelry artist and instructor, and has won national and international awards for her organic jewelry designs fabricated in metal-clay and enamel using techniques informed by her material science engineering education and background.
